N78: Bastard Child of the N-series
by pnksniper on Oct.31, 2008, under N78
I’ve been using the Nokia N78 for the past weeks courtesy of WOM WORLD/Nokia and come to realize that this is a phone that doesnt belong in the N-series line. It has all the bells, whistles and style of an N-series device, yet just doesnt seem like a phone built with the same standards as the highly successful N95, N82 and others. Ive always enjoyed the designs of most of the N-series devices until the N78. Its important to stress that I did try getting used to this device and failed. I hope that this break down gives a better view on what the N78 has to offer.

THETRUTH from Mobile World Innovation has shed some light by doing a comparison shoot of the N85 with dual LED vs the N95-4 with single LED, in my opnion I think the dual LED helps out alot, although visibility is still poor. The keyboard is also slightly different with an extra row of keys thanks to a smaller space bar. No details yet on when the release date is , but it cant be long before Nokia officially announces this.

Hava: Better then Sling?
by pnksniper on Oct.29, 2008, under Random
I havent had a chance to properly use a Hava box yet, but it seems to me that Hava is offering a better product at a cheaper price. This is if course comparing to the current king of TVOIP, Sling. One of the features that I really enjoy is that there top of the line box offers wireless builtin (finally!!!!) which means I dont have to keep a ethernet cable next to my tv (like the current model Slings). Also there is better support for mobile devices, so unlike Sling you wont have to wait a year for yoru handset to get the mobile software (seeing as how Sling is concentrating on BB and Iphone products right now) . I cant wait to test out the new unit and see what kind of results this box can yield. Hit the links for more details.

JonnyBruha lays down the pipe on Nokia.
by pnksniper on Oct.28, 2008, under Nokia, Random
JonnyBruha over at thoughtsonS60 has a great article describing his frustrations with Nokia and its gradual decline in providing uncanny unlocked phones. He dives into the past (when having an unlocked phone meant wielding the latest and greatest, unheard of specs on a phone) to the present (where most US service providers will have a phone that matches the specs of what currrently is being offered from Nokia, at a fraction of the price.) I think its a worthwhile read and he has some interesting points, Ive felt this way often this year, forcing myself to try and find a upgrade to my N95 (which I have long sold), and often finding nothing. Enjoy the read!

Nokia Maps: Zooming In/Out on the E71
by pnksniper on Oct.26, 2008, under Uncategorized
As an S60 ambassador I have recentley decided to apply for the Nokia Maps campaign and write a couple articles based around what I have found. In the past I really never enjoyed using the Nokia Maps application instead opting for much for user friendly solutions such as Google Maps and Amaze GPS. As with most map applications Nokia Maps includes the ability to zoom in/out of maps for closer inspection of streets and locations. In order to use this feature you generally press the * and # to zoom in/out. For most non qwerty S60 devices this is a simple task but on the E71 this is a nightmare. Pressing function key to activate the numberpad and zoom in/ out(* or #) is a hassle (especially when driving). As I have been using the Nokia Maps application more and more, I discovered a new and easier way to zooming in/out of the map without using the * and # button. (continue reading…)

Nokia E63 revealed!
by pnksniper on Oct.23, 2008, under Nokia, Random
BGR was on point in revealing the already leaked Nokia E63. This device was seen about a month ago in a leaked video that showcased two new devices from Nokia (both having qwerty). From early specs the E63 appears to be a dumbed down version of the E71 in a new red plastic shell. One thing to note is that the E63 will come with a 3.5mm headphone jack (many would have loved to seen this on the E71)! Only time will tell when the phone is officially announced from Nokia, until then we can only assume that this phone is geared toward a younger crowd and will be priced significantly lower then the current E71.
