I took some side by side photos of the screens. It was hard to see the difference but it was clear that the N1 has a gorgeous screen that is much larger. Although some of the hues in the red were a bit deeper. You be the judge.

Symbian^3 Ready, Willing, Able?

The new Symbian OS has finally made its debut in the form of a video posted by Nokia. Although much of the”new” elements are pretty standard fare in most other OS’s its still good to know Symbian is headed in the right direction in preparation for eventual release of Symbian^4. The OS looks snappy and exactly what users are looking for in future handsets. I still see some of the old UI design elements but overall this is a huge step forward. Ovi Maps Navi available for N97

While Ovi Maps Navigation has been free for over a week now, N97 users were left in the cold when Nokia decided not to include it in its list of compatible devices. This week brings great news from Nokia with official support for the N97. The Ovi Maps Navi update is available through OTA update (applications>software update) or via PC at nokia.com/softwareupdate.

Well its finally come, free navigation for most Nokia smartphones and more being added at a later date. The announcement comes as a surprise but considering a heavy competitor is offering the same (Google Maps free navigation) it was only a matter of time before Nokia offer the service for free. Its a feature that shouldve been free from the start or at least charge a reasonable fee. The handsets that will have navigation immediately available are the Nokia N97 mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 Navigation Edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 Navigator, 6730 classic and X6. The N97 will be updated to support it soon while other handset not listed will hopefully be updated later down the line. One great step for Nokia to start off the new year. Free is always good.

Nokia BH-905 Hands On

Nokia has spent the past couple years heavily investing into the music industry with mobile devices and music services. This year Nokia has released the BH-905 stereo bluetooth headset which features not only bluetooth stereo streaming but also has a 3.5mm jack. The headset also has a noise canceling feature. I had the privilege of trying the BH-905 stereo headset on the show floor. On first impression the unit is light, sturdy and loud (hard to truly tell but the sound was loud and clear on the show floor, Id assume it would be fine for general home use). The unit does feature noise canceling which is activated with a flick of a switch. I wasn’t able to verify that this actually worked since when I flipped the switch nothing happened. Overall, I felt that the headset are a great investment for anyone who loves music but a bit pricey. The headset are available directly through Nokia and also online retailers. MSRP $299.99 USD

Nokia X6 : Playlist DJ

Browsing the show floor at CES can be overwhelming. Its easy to overlook small things that could make a new product outstanding. The X6, Nokia’s flagship music device has an interesting application that sorts your music based on mood. While the rep couldn’t explain the specifics from what I gathered the application seems to connect online and sort your music catalogue via mood categories. Depending on your adjustments, you can increase or decrease each category (Happy (upbeat?), Heart (romantic?), Cloudy, Watch (workout/fast paced?)) it will make a playlist. For the time being it will be a X6 feature but is capable of working on other S60 5th edition device.
