The much awaited Nokia XpressMusic 5800 NAM edition (thats right US 3G!) has passed through the FCC. While this isn’t a indicator on when the phone will pop up for sale on US shores it does bring hope that it will be coming sometime soon. Multiple sources from Nokia have stated that the phone is due sometime in Q1′09. Hopefully this will mean JANUARY of 2009! On another note the Nokia flagship store in Chicago is currently selling the XpressMusic 5800 Euro with US Warranty for $350 USD, great price (for those who cant wait). Personally Ive been on the short end of the stick when it comes to buying a device early (N95-1 early adopter) so I will be waiting this one out patiently.

Enjoy the rest of the world :).

User SR1329 from HoFo has uncovered an old article (dating 2007) regarding Nokia’s patented touch screen vibration technology, Haptikos. Many handsets on the market today support physical feedback but this involves the whole phone vibrating. Haptikos offers technology that will emulate actual physical buttons on a touch screen with clicks, and button depression. This sounds very similar to the technology that is seen on the yet to be released BlackBerry Storm. Whether its the same type of technology is unknown. But it seems as though Nokia’s is more specific to each button while the Storm is more of a whole screen depression. What comes to mind is that I was expecting seeing this technology on the upcoming XpressMusic 5800, but it will not be featured on this device. So I can only assume that this technology might be featured on the upcoming N-series touch device from Nokia. Only time will tell. Hit the link for the full read, Enjoy.

BGR has found the Nokia 5800 available for pre order on a site in Spain, but something looks wrong, AH! the price. According to the site the 5800 will sell for €429 or $548, this is quite a bit of difference from what was announced from Nokia back a couple months ago. According to Nokia the pricing should be around $400. Could this be an early adopter price hike? or standard pricing? Once the device hits more markets and retailers we should find what the true price will be. For the full read hit the link.

Its been a couple days since the announcement of the XpressMusic 5800 and I have been thinking, if this is the mid range device, then what does Nokia have planned for its high end touch enabled device. Lets start with a list of possible improvements.

Camera: Definetly room to improve here, most likely case that a 5MP Carl Zeiss lens will be used, although it would be even more of a surprise to see Nokia use a 8MP lens (highly doubt it since the N96 flagship is touting a 5MP)

Screen: Although the resolution is great, there could be room for expansion of the screen size. Possibly something to match up with the Iphone increasing the 3.2″ screen to 3.5″ or larger.

Graphics: high end graphics module to enable better handling of 3D. It has not been confirmed what type of chip is being used in the XpressMusic 5800 but it is capable of handling 3D.

Physical: Last but not least the physical aspect of the phone. Making it thinner or even adding a qwerty keyboard?

Just my thoughts. Any inputs put it below in the comments section.
